The babies are taught the basics skills - step up and not to bite. I play with them every day so they become familiar with being handled, i.e., touched under the wings, feet, backs, tails, etc. They are also familiar with household noise - television, telephones, barking dogs and vacuum cleaners.
If requested by the new owner, I will harness and leash train the babies. This enables the new owners to take the birds for walks (on their arms) in good weather without the worry of accidents. Please note that even though the birds are on harness and leash, their wings must still be clipped. I walk my Greenwing, Blue & Gold and Miligold quite often - weather permitting

DNA sexing is available. Babies can be DNA sexed at 1 - 2 months of age and the DNA Certificate is given to the new owners. About two (2) weeks before leaving our care, they are taken to a Veterinarian for a complete physical. After the results are determined, the Veterinarian issues a Health Certificate, which is given to the new owners along with the DNA Certificate.
Once in their new homes, the new owners are required to take the birds to their Avian Vet within 3 days for a checkup. |

It is recommended that any bird larger than a cockatiel should not be permitted to perch on your shoulder. If something startles the bird, it could bite trying to make you move out of the way (this is what they would do in the wild to their mates. Difference......we don't have feathers and the bite would hurt). Another reason not to put your bird on your shoulder - hawks.
